Centre for Women in Aviation, Emerging Technology & Digital Sovereignty

Drives gender-inclusive innovation in AI, cybersecurity, and aviation tech. Advocates for SheCodes policy, ethical AI, and women-led digital sovereignty in aviation ecosystems.

The Centre for Women in Aviation, Emerging Technology & Digital Sovereignty is dedicated to advancing the intersection of gender equality, technological innovation, and digital sovereignty within the aviation sector. In an era where technology is shaping the future of aviation, this Centre envisions a world where women’s leadership, inclusive innovation, and ethical technology are integral to how the industry evolves.

The Centre’s core focus is on SheCodes Policy, an initiative to promote women’s participation and leadership in the development and governance of emerging aviation technologies, from artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to autonomous systems and blockchain. By fostering a pipeline for women in STEM and aviation technology leadership roles, the Centre works to dismantle barriers to entry and provide equitable opportunities for women to shape the future of aviation technology.

Through its digital sovereignty mandate, the Centre also addresses the increasing need for aviation systems to be governed with ethical, transparent, and culturally sensitive data policies. It works to ensure that technological advancement in aviation does not compromise privacy, autonomy, or sovereignty, particularly for countries and communities that may face exploitation through technological dependency. The Centre advocates for national and global frameworks that prioritize local control and regulation of aviation data, digital infrastructure, and AI technologies.

In its research, the Centre explores the ethical implications of AI and automation in aviation, focusing on ensuring that technologies are designed, deployed, and governed in ways that are fair, inclusive, and responsive to gender and social justice. It also provides thought leadership on how digital technologies can be leveraged to advance feminist policy, promote gender equity in the aviation workforce, and create a more inclusive, sustainable aviation ecosystem.

Collaborating with industry leaders, government regulators, technology companies, and advocacy groups, the Centre drives the creation of policy guidelines, best practices, and actionable frameworks that support the growth of ethical and gender-sensitive aviation technologies, while ensuring that digital sovereignty and social justice remain at the forefront of digital transformation.

This Centre is a powerful platform to ensure that women lead the charge in creating a future for aviation that is innovative, ethical, and inclusive, with the collective goal of ensuring that technology serves the needs of diverse communities and stakeholders in aviation.
